ROHI'S LIBERATION STATION
OUR NONPROFIT
Rohi's Readery is proud to spotlight its 501(c)(3) non-profit initiative, which deepens our mission of fostering inclusivity and education within the community.
THE MISSION:
Rohi’s Liberation Station 501c3, a critical nonprofit initiative by Rohi's Readery, honors historically marginalized communities through a multigenerational literacy learning approach- integrating healing, storytelling, creativity, and connection.
THE VISION:
Leading transformative change through the power of reading, we envision a world where communities thrive in cultural pride, social healing, and limitless growth through multigenerational literacy learning.
THE FOCUS:
We focus on three essential components:

-
Critical Literacy: Fostering early childhood reading readiness through arts and culture. We believe children are innately brilliant, and through intentional, engaging experiences, they can develop strong literacy skills that prepare them for the future.

-
Creative Storytelling: Honoring diverse narratives and developing critical literacy skills through storytelling. We recognize storytelling as a powerful tool to connect people, preserve cultures, and challenge dominant narratives, fostering learning and social change.

-
Community Connection and Healing: Promoting social and emotional well-being through inclusive and supportive literacy programs. We emphasize collective healing, recognizing that critical literacy can address trauma and encourage reflection for all ages.
THE DEFINITIONS:
How we define literacy learning: The process of developing the ability to understand, interpret, and create meaning through various forms of communication, including reading, writing, oral storytelling, song, art, dance, movement and music to name a few. It encompasses the skills needed to comprehend and express ideas across multiple modes of expression and cultural contexts.

How we define critical literacy: The ability to actively analyze and question the messages within various texts and media, recognizing underlying social, political, and cultural contexts and power dynamics. It encourages readers to challenge and transform these messages to promote equity and social justice.
